Pretty party town
Guanajuato!
So many colours and windows all cramed on top of one another. One of the alleyways was called 'Exit if you can'.
You can just gaze upon this sight for ages - it is really wonderful.
Soon discover its secret, under all this beautiful jumble of houses is a massive network of tunnels.
...facinating with parking, bus stops, taxi ranks. The mineral weath of the surrounding hills once made it the richest city in Mexico but with the valley so narrow, they dug the entire network or tunnels to keep things moving.
nightmare with a sat nav...
Eventually found my way out and arrived at a little b&b up on the north side. Nice place, this is how they clip dogs to deal with the heat..
turn a corner and the massive University is somehow squeezed into these narrow streets
The centre of town, these massive clipped trees giving cool shade.
Lush food again
I find a square away from the main tourist zone, familes sitting outsde their homes having lunch alongside the restaurants.
then a drumming... on my way to investigate i feel something behind me...
the drumming is drawing everyone one in... a march / fiesta thing!
It is LOUD
WTF
it get pretty wild esp with the whip devil dude - not the face!
and it does'nt stop there...
as night falls the streets get full of VW beatles and revelers
It ends up a kind of musical pub crawl, this song is called Cielito Lindo, the unoffical anthem of Mexico - roughly about a guy who sings about a girl... big black eyes.. sing and don't cry, becuse everytime you sing you're heart fills with joy.
A little wooden donkey I bought from a kid who was left out asleep on the kerb.
And there is this guy with the ear splitting train oven thing... a real banana selling bell end.
Great vibrant city. Loved it!
